The Outsiders by S.E Hinton

As usual, it's Tris. Today I am going to be doing my first book review! The lucky book is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Do not continue on if you do not want to be majorly spoiled! Read it and come back! I'd love to hear what you thought on the book!

Where do I even begin? The book talks about the life of Greasers vs Socs, and the main character is 14 year old Ponyboy. He has 2 brothers, Darry and Sodapop. His parents were killed in a car wreck a few years before the book takes place. Ponyboy is part of a "gang" consisting of Darry, Soda, Steve, Dally, Two-Bit, and Johnny. They don't refer to themselves as a gang because they aren't those type of people, excluding Dally.

The Greasers are always getting jumped by the Socials, or Socs for short. You come to learn that Johnny was almost killed by a group of Socs, so he carried around a switchblade with him.

Darry is always yelling at Pony, but one day he slaps him, causing Pony to run away. He goes to the park with Johnny, where they are jumped by Socs. These are the same Socs that nearly killed Johnny earlier. Some of the Socs are drowning Pony, so Johnny stabs their leader, Bob, with his switchblade. This kills Bob, so Johnny and Pony go to Dally for a plan, money, and a gun. Dally tells the boys to go to an abandoned church in Windrixville.

Johnny buys supplies to cut off Pony's long hair, and bleach it blonde, which Pony hates because his hair is his pride and joy. After a week or so, Dally comes and takes the boys to get ice cream. They arrive back to find the church on fire, and there are little kids inside. Johnny and Pony rescue the kids. Pony barely gets out in time, and Johnny is still in the church when the building falls. Dally slaps the fire off of Pony'Pony's back, causing him to black out. Dally, Johnny, and Pony are rushed to the hospital.

Pony is released from the hospital, but Johnny is in critical condition. The Greasers arrange a rumble with the Socs. Gally pulls a switchblade on a nurse so he can go fight. The Greasers win, but Pony blacks out. When Pony and Dally go to tell Johnny the news, Johnny dies from burns.
Side note: I cried SOOOOOOO much! And I was spoiled, but I still cried. A lot.
Dally rushes out of the hospital room, and the gang learns that Dally robs a store and is on the run from the cops. They get there just in time to see Dally surrounded by the cops. He pulls a gun on them, so the cops shoot him. What they didn't know was that Dally was bluffing. Pony realizes that Dally wanted to die because Johnny was the only thing Dally loved.

Pony starts falling behind in school. In English, his teacher tells him to write a semester theme, and he'll pass. Darry and Pony fight, causing Soda to run away. Soda makes them promise not to fight anymore so they won't get seperated. At the end, you find out that the semester theme Pony wrote was the book itself. The Outsiders.

I really love this book! It made me cry, laugh and cry some more. Johnny was my favorite character. My favorite character always has to die. I never get a break. I left out a lot of details, because I could've written a book longer than the book itself on The Outsiders. We had to read this book for a novel unit in school, and I'm glad we did! It's one of the best books I've ever read! And I haven't cried so much because of a book since Clockwork Princess.

I guess that's it for the post. Hope you enjoyed this, and I'll see you soon with a new blog post! (I'll be doing more of these now instead of videos because I have like 50) I always take recommendations for anything!

A Note to Ella: Happy Birthday my book loving friend! Hope you have/had a great day!
